Business Segment Overview:

Commercial: With boots on the ground authenticity at the heart of everything we do, our comprehensive array of commercial products and services enable you to work directly with our clients, across hedging, risk management, execution and clearing, OTC products, commodity finance and more.

 

Position purpose: the Associate Softs Merchandiser will collaborate with Cocoa Trading and Trade Control staff to facilitate the purchase, execution and sales of physical cocoa beans and cocoa products. This person will be responsible for providing customer service to existing customers and developing new customer relationships. They will work closely with commercial, trade control, settlement, and cash teams to ensure all trades are completed and comply with internal policies and procedures. The job will require an analytical professional to demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgement in assessing opportunities and risk while providing oversight of the portfolio and mitigating risks related to physical commodity trades.

Responsibilities

Primary duties will include:

  • Bi-Lingual (English and Spanish required.)
  • Contacts customers on a regular basis
  • Coordinate transportation of the movement of physical commodities being purchased and sold with logistics service providers. Ensure all costs of delivery are accounted for appropriately in the system of record
  • Proactively develop prospective accounts while providing customer service to existing sales and supplier accounts
  • Obtain market knowledge and insight through continuous communication with product suppliers, customers, and other industry participants
  • Accept price fixing orders from clients and coordinate positions on hedges of physical commodities with the appropriate department. Ensure those hedges comply with internal hedging policies and exchange rules
  • Keep track of documentation and update the various files needed to successfully execute the different business flows
  • Research, document, and verify counterparty information such as financial statements, credit references, and trade references for new clients and for yearly renewal of existing clients
  • Enter all purchase and sale trade information into the system of record timely and accurately then prepare documentation for transactions (such as purchase and sale agreements) and ensure terms of contracts are acceptable under guidelines established by the organization
  • Oversee trade positions and identify risk factors along with ways to mitigate those risks
  • Monitor trade limits and receivable limits and communicate with trade control, risk, and management departments daily to ensure trades remain within established credit thresholds
  • Reconcile daily Profit and Loss associated with physical commodity trades and ensures economics are accounted for appropriately (mark-to-market accounting)

Qualifications

To land this role you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Agriculture, Trade, and/or Finance required
  • Candidates graduating before January 2026 strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational and verbal/written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Detail oriented, organized, and excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects in a busy, demanding environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft office products
  • Bi-Lingual (English and Spanish required. French preferred but not necessary)

What makes you stand out:

  • Basic understanding of commodity futures markets and hedging
  • Proficient in Microsoft Power BI
  • Understanding of databases and basic coding (Python and SQL)

Physical requirements/Working conditions:

  • 4 days per week onsite, 1 day per week remote
  • Maintain prompt attendance
  • Travel as needed to other offices, client meetings and industry events
  • Dynamic, time-sensitive environment
